Why I Didn't Bring My Candles to The Bold Market (And What I Learned)

Sunday morning started like any big market day should excitement, nerves, and a carefully packed car full of products.

Except this time, my signature candles weren't in that car.

Let me explain.

The 6 AM Wake-Up Call

I woke up Sunday at 6 AM, ready to load up for The Bold Market. I had my display planned, my candles staged, everything ready to go.

Then I checked the weather.

90 degrees. Scorching heat. Direct sunlight on the market tables.

My heart sank.

You know that moment when you realize your beautifully crafted candles  the ones you spent hours perfecting are about to turn into puddles of wax in the Alabama heat?

Yeah, that was me, standing in my studio at 6 AM, completely rethinking my entire setup.

The Pivot

I had a choice: bring the candles anyway and risk them melting, or pivot completely.

So I grabbed what could survive the heat:

  • Room sprays

  • Wax melts

  • Foam pump hand soaps

Products that wouldn't turn into science experiments under the sun.

Honestly? I was nervous. The Bold Market was supposed to be my candle debut. People were expecting candles. I'd been promoting candles.

And now I was showing up without them.

What Actually Happened

Here's what I didn't expect: people went WILD for what I brought.

The room sprays? People couldn't stop spraying them. They'd test one scent, walk away, come back five minutes later to test it again.

The wax melts? I watched customers smell every single one, trying to decide which scent to choose because they loved them all.

The foam pump hand soaps? One woman literally said, "I need this in every bathroom in my house."

I captured so much of it on video real reactions from real people falling in love with scents they'd never experienced before.

The Question Everyone Asked

But here's what kept coming up throughout the day:

"Where are your candles?"

"Do you have fall scents coming?"

"When can I buy those?"

People wanted the full experience. They loved the room sprays and wax melts, but they wanted the candles too.

And I realized something: leaving the candles at the studio wasn't a mistake.

It was a preview.

What's Coming Next

What I Learned at The Bold Market

Here's what Sunday taught me:

Sometimes the "mistake" is actually the strategy.

By not bringing candles, I created anticipation. People wanted what they couldn't have. They experienced the room sprays and wax melts, and now they're even more excited for the full candle experience.

People connect with authenticity.

I didn't pretend I planned to skip the candles. I was honest: "It's too hot, they would've melted." And you know what? People respected that. They appreciated the realness.

Your customers will tell you what they want.

Every person who asked "where are the candles?" was telling me there's demand. Every question about fall scents was market research in real time.
